Where to find the best place when trout fishing will depend on your definition of best. If you’re on a trout fishing lake where you caught the daily limit, it’s a good spot. However, if you only found other types of fish, you would not consider it a good spot.
Whether you’re in a boat or on the shores of trout fishing lake casting or trolling can be rewarding. Once you know what to look for and the type of bait or lure the fish are interested in, you can have a pretty good time.
You have probably seen it many times, or even experienced it yourself when you’re in a boat on a trout fishing lake and one person in the group always seems to catch their limit as the other sit quietly by and watch. It can be exasperating to see your buddy reel in all the fish while you sit empty handed.
Perhaps you’re all using the same bait or the same lure and trolling in the same boat on the same trout fishing lake. While you spend all day fishing, someone else is spending the day catching. Instead of asking why he is so lucky, the better question may be what he is doing differently.
Catching Is In The Technique
Most fish are basically lazy at certain times of day in a trout fishing lake and will exert as little effort as possible to catch their meal or a snack. Casting and retrieving too fast or at a steady, even pace offers the fish little in the way of excitement or a reason to believe the bait is in trouble and could be hard to catch once going after it.
Trolling is the same, as a constant speed and straight troll will seldom evoke excitement in a fish. By subtly changing directions and speed of your lure or bait, the fish may visualize an injured prey and grow interested in following a short time before striking. This holds true whether at a stream or on a trout fishing lake.
Sometimes trout will ignore a lure even when passed right under their nose if they believe it to be a healthy bait, thinking it will take too much effort to go after it. However, if they see it swim a while, slow and maybe sink a few inches before beginning a renewed path, it sees it as an injured creature and will go after the morsel.
Next time you’re out on a trout fishing lake and someone is catching all the fish, don’t blame them just because they have altered their technique. Share with them the tips you know to help make everyone’s catch a record one.
