Salt Water Fishing For Fun

I’ve never been salt water fishing, but I have spent plenty of time on lakes and rivers fishing next to my father. We always had fun, but I don’t have the fishing bug like he does. He and my husband often go fishing together, and I take that time to relax and enjoy other pursuits. My dad used to keep a fishing journal, and the entries were always great, but his biggest adventure happened when he booked a trip to go fishing in the ocean. The trip was more than he bargained for, and he always talks about how much fun he had when he went.

You have to buy special rods and reels for salt water fishing, as you may suspect, because the fish in the ocean are just so much bigger than the ones you get in lakes and rivers. You may not even catch a fish, as they are other things out there that sometimes will take your bait. You have to sit in a special seat on the boat, and many times, you actually need to be strapped to that seat. My father learned this lesson on his one and only salt water fishing trip.

I’m not sure if he caught anything else, but he did bag a nine-foot shark. I’m not sure what kind it was, nor do I know anything more about it. I do know he has a picture of it, and I cannot believe he pulled that thing out of the water. I have struggled with fish in a small lake, I can’t imagine having to pull a nine-foot shark out of the water. As with all salt water fishing prizes, I do believe it took hours for get it out of the water. He had to have a lot of help on top of that.

If you would like to try salt water fishing, you can find all sorts of special trips that are just for this purpose. If you know someone who has a boat, you may be able to talk him or her into a trip, but make sure you find out all the ins and outs of salt water fishing before you go. Nothing will be worse than being ill prepared. In fact, you probably should not go unless you have an expert with you. Being on the open sea or ocean is not something to mess around with. You can find plenty of websites that will give you a list of toys you need to take with you, and also plenty of tips for successful salt water fishing. Have fun!
